2,4-D is a phenoxy-acetic acid herbicide that acts as a synthetic auxin, mimicking the natural plant hormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). It is absorbed by weed foliage and disrupts normal hormonal balance, causing uncontrolled and abnormal cell division and growth in susceptible broad-leaved weeds, which leads to disruption of vascular tissue and plant death. 2,4-D is classified under HRAC/WSSA Group 4 (synthetic auxins).
Messy (2,4-D Dimethyl Amine Salt 58% SL) is diluted in the recommended volume of water and applied as a post-emergence foliar spray in maize, using standard knapsack or boom sprayers, following the approved product label.
